Fashion is for today, Style is for forever

Fashion and Style are very different so here’s my quick explanation.

Fashion is for today….

Fashion is a very broad industry.

It can be the style for day to day attire.

The couture ranges designers come up with.

Even the costumes on a film set.

Basically the ever changing clothes we wear or long to wear.

Fashion turnover tends to be fast. It offers a disposable wardrobe. A quick succession of outfits. It’s fun, ever changing and adventurous but it’s also costly to both the consumer, the workers and the environment.

The fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world coming second only to the oil industry (www.sustainyourstyle.org). Fashion is commonly considered as temporary which can be seen as a plus because we often love to change things but do we really need to?

Style is for forever….

Style on the other hand is timeless.

It’s a part of our personality. You can often tell a part of a persons personality by the styles they wear the most.

For example I wear skinny jeans and blazers a lot partly because it makes me feel like the boss I aspire to be but also because It’s effortless and will stand the test of time. By buying good quality jeans and blazers in timeless colours I can restyle and rewear them as often as I like. Style is an essence of who we are. Its a part of us. It’s how we express ourselves and how we want to be seen.

If you think of architectural styles you’ve got Renaissance, Art Deco, Greek, Gothic etc. And in music there is Jazz, Rock, Heavy Metal, Classical et.

They may not be to everyones taste but they are loved by someone.

Just like with your own style. It’s all relative! Just because you don’t like someone else’s vibe doesn’t mean they don’t have style. It simply means yours is different.

Style is slow fashion.

It’s investment pieces.

It has a story.

It’s timeless, beautiful, personal, joyous and expressive

Thats why I will always choose Style over Fashion
